Wisconsin State Flag
Date adopted: May 1, 1981
The flag of Wisconsin, officially adopted in 1863 and modified in 1979, is a blue flag bearing the state coat of arms of Wisconsin. The flag's specifications include a royal blue background with the state coat of arms applied in the center, the word "WISCONSIN" in white, capital, condensed Gothic letters above the coat of arms, and the year "1848" in white, condensed Gothic numbers below the coat of arms. Its history dates back to its adoption in response to Civil War regiments' requests for battlefield flags. The flag design was similar to those used by regiments and was officially added to the Wisconsin Statutes in 1913. Notably, in 1979, the flag was modified to include the words "Wisconsin" and "1848" to distinguish it from other state flags.
